SME Packages Digital funds up to 70% of a digital project for a Luxembourg SME. The conditions are simple, but a few mistakes are enough to lose the grant. Here are the five most common ones, and how to avoid them.
1. Signing the quote before you have approval
This is the most expensive mistake, and it cannot be undone. The application must be submitted and approved on MyGuichet.lu before you sign the quote, start the work or pay a deposit.
Anything that starts before the Ministry of the Economy gives its approval is permanently excluded from the grant. A quote signed “to save time” is enough to sink the application.
2. Planning a project outside the budget limits
The cost of the service must be between €3,000 and €25,000 excluding VAT, depending on the package. A project that is too small is not eligible, and the part above the ceiling is not funded.
It is better to scope the project with your provider before submitting the application, so that it fits within these limits.
3. Forgetting to check your business permit
The company must hold a valid business permit (autorisation d’établissement) issued by the Ministry of the Economy, and have its registered office in Luxembourg. Check both points before you do anything else: it is quick, and it saves you from building an application for nothing.
4. Not checking that you really are an SME
The grant is for SMEs as defined at European level: fewer than 250 employees, and an annual turnover of no more than 50 million euros or an annual balance sheet total of no more than 43 million euros.
Most Luxembourg companies fall within these thresholds, but a company that belongs to a group needs to look closely at its situation.

- Scope the project and prepare the quote, without signing it.
- Submit the application on MyGuichet.lu.
- Wait for the ministry’s approval.
- Sign, then start the project.
